Guided walk through the Essaouira medina and the Skala

The Essaouira medina is small and easy to wander, but its story comes alive with a guide: an 18th-century fortified town, a port opened to trade with Europe, and Jewish and Muslim communities living side by side in the mellah for generations.
The walk takes in the Skala de la Ville with its cannons facing the ocean, the busy Skala du Port when the boats come in, then the spice souks and the workshops where craftsmen inlay thuya wood, the region’s speciality.
Best late in the day, when the light turns the ramparts gold. Optional grilled-fish stop at the port.
